![]() ![]() ![]() Wrapping tightly, then twisting the ends together. This will add strength to the hole. A Dremel with a small bit to roughen it up should be good.īefore I fill, I would put a copper wire wrapped around the center area where you would put the spring clip. I would make the surface rough though so the epoxy will have something to grab onto. ![]() I second the recommendation of Ken.But, looking at your photo I see what appears to be at least two cracks having a pronounced gap at the boss of the shaft hole.If these are not closed sufficiently then the repair is likely to fail.My recommendation would be to gently apply a smaller size spring clamp to see if these gaps close (doing so before any glue is applied). If so, then I would proceed with regular cyanoacrylate (Super Glue). If not, then I would consider the use of a thicker formula of cyanoacrylate used in concert with accelerator (aka "kicker") that is available to make a fast set and/or plastic weld. With some attention to the knob's orientation during the repair, the thicker formula will not be so likely to run out of the gap and when finished any extra glue as above the boss' surface can be filed down making a smooth planar surface as original. The strength should be far more than adequate for turning forces applied to a normally operating volume control and on-off switch if so equipped.Ī good choice, in my experience, is the GAP brand of cyanoacrylate and with reference to my suggestion above for a thicker formula, the green label ZAP would be quite suitable. It and the thinner version (pink label) are furnished with a nice, long snoot for easily targeting your repair site.If you have limited experience with cyanoacrylate glues, I suggest you buy only the smallest container (2oz) available because after several months and further use, what's left of the cyanoacrylate glue (all brands, AFAIK) often gets considerably thicker or even hardens in the container, rendering the remainder of your investment useless.Keeping the glue container tightly closed and secured within a zip-lock bag in the refrigerator can help prevent this wasteful quality. As for the accelerator, this can be purchased in a small bottle with a spritz "push button" nozzle and affords a simple means of applying it to the repair site after the glue and any clamp(s) have been applied. The excess overspray is easily wiped away just shortly after application. ![]()
